Description
*FUNDRAISER FOR CANCER PATIENT* This piece is special to me. It was the first piece that took me days to complete. It made me feel like an artist (for the first time). It's the largest painting I've ever done (the original is about 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide). But most importantly, it's a piece that came from deep emotional turmoil. In December 2023, a family member was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer while a different family member was battling breast cancer reoccurrence. One month later, a friend from college was diagnosed with stage 4 inflammatory breast cancer. At 34 years old, her life was completely flipped upside down. And I was forced, once again, to reckon with death. I've lost many people over the years: to suicide, accidents, and a few to old age. But there is something different about watching someone battle a disease that is hungry for their life. My friend's diagnosis, and how close we are in age (1 month) made it all feel so real. I didnt know how to cope or what I felt. So, I painted.  I painted, and I stopped. I looked at the canvas. I let it sit in my living room, unfinished. I’d glance over while watching tv until I knew what needed adding. I painted. I stopped. I processed. I kept painting. And this piece is the result.  Sadly, my two family members have since passed. But my friend, Maya, is still fighting. In honor of her, I have decided to sell prints of my FUCK CANCER painting to help support her treatment! Maya is a gem of a human and wouldnt allow me to give her 100% of the profits. 80% will go to her and 20% will be kept by me. If you would like to donate to Maya directly instead, you can via GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-maya-continue-surviving-stage-4-cancer
